Salvador

Unbridled energy and enthusiasm for life abounds in Salvador de Bahia, where nights are savored and day times, if not spent working, are spent by the beach or in one of the numerous cafes that line the city’s streets.

A stunning colonial city

Salvador de Bahia is one of the most beautiful cities in Brazil, largely owing to its cultural heritage. As one of the main ports for the Portuguese invasion, it has the (dubious) advantage of housing some of the most picturesque colonial architecture in the country.

This historic fact has also led it to being the center of afro-Brazilian culture, meaning the city is infused with an incredible mix of cultures, and a distinct taste of Africa.

Most night drumming groups take to the streets
as locals drink and dance into the early hours, and very frequently festivals occur, so it’s worth checking out when to visit as there’s a good chance you’ll catch one.

On top of the taste for enjoying oneself in Salvador, there are also a wealth of restaurants, cafes and bars that line the city’s main square, and these are the perfect place to relax and observe the unique culture of the city.

Nearby you can explore pristine coasts just by exploring for half an hour, and the city also has a great market to explore for trinkets.

Salvador de Bahia can often be missed on a visit to South America, since it doesn’t sit so comfortably on the Brazil to Argentina route, but for anyone who wants any kind of understanding of Brazil’s history and culture, the city is absolutely unmissable.
