Located on the Northeast coast, in the state of Pernambuco, Recife is Brazil’s fifth largest city with a population of just under 1.5 million people. Known as the “Venice of Brazil” for its numerous rivers, islands and bridges, it sports what is arguably the best beach in Brazil, Porto de Galinhas, located about one hour south of the city.
