Brazilian Music and Dance

When considering music and dance, the first obvious point to be made is the degree to which they are related. This is perhaps demonstrated in no country better than Brazil, where a wide variety of unique styles of music serve as backdrops to the famed Brazilian zest for dance. Many of Brazil's musical and dance stylings have their origins in Brazil's rich geographic, cultural, and ethnic heritage.

Forro Dancers
Take, for example, forro, which originated as a simple two-step dance in peasant communities in Northeastern Brazil
. An upbeat accordion-driven country music style, it was originally viewed contemptuously by the wealthier and more high-society southern Brazilians.

But due to its incredible danceability, forro has now taken a place of prominence, even in some of the most sophisticated dance halls and night clubs of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro!
