Brazil captures the imagination like few other countries. Not only does it boast the Amazon (which alone would make the country one of the most desirable destinations to travel to).

The future of BrazilBut also a vibrant, colorful culture; some of the best beaches on earth; huge, overwhelming waterfalls; charming colonial cities; incredible wildlife and, of course, Brazil is home to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival – the undisputed king of carnivals around the world.

Amazon River

Brazil is huge. Its area spreads beyond 8,456,510 square meters and the only countries in South America that it doesn’t border are Chile and Ecuador. The Amazon River’s flooded banks alone regularly extend beyond the size of England. Though the national tongue is Portuguese, over 120 indigenous languages are spoken thanks to the incredible variety of cultures in the country.

All this gives Brazil the feeling of being a continent in itself and, indeed, traveling the length and breadth of the country offers up some of the same problems as continent-wide travel. Journeys can be long, frustrating and expensive. But there’s no question that the rewards outweigh the trouble. To witness the difference between lively Rio de Janeiro, beautiful Salvador and the unforgettable Pantanal is something few travelers would want to miss.

World Cup 2014Brazil’s culture is a rich mix of European, indigenous and African heritage. Upon arrival, it’s not hard to see why it’s known as ‘The Rainbow Nation’. This mix is evident everywhere and is one of the main reasons people love Brazil. The music, the laid-back attitudes of the people, the food and the architecture all reflect the country’s rich, varied and at times turbulent history.

Brazil has a deserved reputation of being an expensive place to travel. It’s hard to do Brazil on a budget, but that’s not to say costs are through the roof. Things are similar in price – if not a little cheaper – to the US and Europe. But the price of Brazil can be explained by the economic rise of the country, and this fact is also one of the reasons there has never been a better time to visit. There’s an excitement in the air as Brazil transforms into one of the major players in the world and, with the 2014 World Cup being played in Brazil, there’s no question that it’s time to start planning your trip here.
