If you’re used to subtlety, understatement and not being ogled, then Brazil may come as somewhat of a surprise to you. Men in Brazil are very fond of letting their feelings known, even if it may seem slightly disingenuous (‘I love you’ is pretty strong considering you just met them, right?) at times.

Brazilian men are also very ‘touchy’, which you’ll notice in the clubs and if you go on a date with one. Don’t be alarmed, it’s just the culture and shouldn’t be a hint of anything more sinister. If it makes you uncomfortable just be firm and honest, generally the worst you’ll get is a disappointed look.

If you’re interested in sampling the delights of Brazil, you’ll find the men to be extremely friendly, outgoing and affectionate. As mentioned, they’re quick to give compliments and this can be a refreshing change from the tight-lipped men of other countries. Expect a great deal of attention in the way of texts and phone calls, although unless you’re clear from the beginning keep in mind that dating rules are a lot more flexible in Brazil: what is unacceptable back home may just be the norm here. Make sure you know where you stand to avoid any nasty surprises.
