Table Manners and Service

It’s a bit of a landmine eating at a restaurant here in Brazil. Cheap places you cannot really expect good service, expensive ones you do and the majority of the time you will be disappointed.

Restaurant Rio de JaneiroTable manners by the guests can also leave a lot to be desired. I have witnessed some odd handling of cutlery since my arrival here in Brazil. There is one very peculiar method, which involves a stabbing action with the fork and a hacksaw type action with the knife.

=> After watching it I did wonder whether perhaps the meat was rather tough and that precipitated the unusual use of knife and fork, but it is not so, I have also witnessed the same conduct whilst trying to devour less fibrous food items.

Restaurant Rio de JaneiroService too can be a little haphazard, sometimes to the point of rude. You will be surprised and alarmed at the behaviour of the garcon’s here in Rio. It is custom for the food to arrive at your table at various times so you will need to practice apologising to your companions and then begin your meal without them.

Even if you politely point this out it will either be ignored or shrugged off with a dismissive wave towards the kitchen. With the Olympics and World Cup currently gathering momentum here in Brazil we are all hoping that some changes will happen, perhaps with the influx of foreigners here the standards will change. Let us do hope so.
