Northeastern Brazil
..........................................................................................................................................

For kitesurfing, it doesn't get much better than the Brazilian Northeast, with its consistent conditions, beautiful beaches, and incredible dining and nightlife options to boot. An additional benefit is that most beaches offer suitable conditions for kitesurfers of all abilities. You'll encounter the best winds between July and January, consistently blowing at between 20 and 30 knots. The winds are at their strongest between September and November, and may gust up to 35 knots. Recife, Olinda, Fernando de Noronha, and Jericoacoara are all known for many great kitesurfing spots.

Jericoacoara, in particular, boasts an amazing spot, 10km east of town at Praia do Prea. Head to Kite Club Prea, for excellent and internationally-accredited classes, equipment rental, and conditions (it is an official International Kiteboarding Organization center). A four hour class runs R$380, while you can rent equipment for a half-day for R$150. If you're looking for a great English-speaking instructor, get in touch with Marcio Hernandez.

Florianopolis
..........................................................................................................................................

While not yet as renowned as the Northeast for kitesurfing, Florianopolis is rapidly developing the infrastructure and culture for this exciting sport. You'll find the best conditions here between September and November. However, with the island's geography and exposure to the Atlantic tradewinds, you're likely to find great conditions through March. And typically from mid-afternoon on, when the winds pick up, you'll be in kitesurfing heaven year-round. Expert kitesurfers have suggested that, on average, Floripa yields over 250 kitesurfable days per year.

The Lagoa da Conceicao salt water lagoon is an ideal place to begin your experience, while Praia Mole is a great option for waveriding. If you are interested in downwinding, head over to Campeche Beach. Floripa offers great options for beginners who want to take classes, including many accredited facilities. You will typically be up and riding by the third day!
