Surf in Brazil

Brazil has the unfortunate and misguided reputation of being a less-than-great surf destination. According to general consensus, the surf is mild with small waves being the norm. While it’s true there are many areas with only small waves, Brazil is such a huge country that trying to define it in one way or another ends up flawed: there are always more options than meets the eye.

Go surfing in Florianopolis

The best times to surf are from April to September in the South of Brazil, and November to March in the North of Brazil. This means you’ve got good waves pretty much the whole year round.

A particularly highly recommended area is Fernando do Noronha in the north of the country. It should be noted, however, that southern Brazil provides the most consistent surf, and there are frequent droughts in the northeasterly regions.

While surfing is popular in Brazil, it’s also easy enough to find your own personal spots thanks to the size of the coastline. The best thing about surf in Brazil, however, is the sheer amount of variety. All levels of surfers are welcome here to take part however they feel comfortable, from beginners to big-wave hunters.
