The Tijuca Forest is part of the Tijuca National Park.
The forest was all cut down in colonial times (17th century) for coffee and sugar plantations. Over 100,000 trees have been replanted at the end of the 19th century, and the forest was reborn!

Rain Forest Rio De JaneiroThe forest is located around the Corcovado and is about 120km squared! There are many trails in Tijuca and serious hikers can climb up to the Pico da Tijuca (1012 m high). The forest has several waterfalls, the most impressive is "Cascatinha de Taunay" (35m high).

=> The best way to get there is to grab taxi, as getting there by bus is a little complicated. Make sure to negotiate the price beforehand, as they tend to overcharge foreigners.

Taking a guided tour to the urban rainforest may be what you're looking for. There are various options, including jeeps that can take you to the top of the forest where you will have fantastic views.
