THE 5 RULES TO FIND A CHEAP(ER) FLIGHT
..........................................................................................................................................

1. Book in advance
Although you might think that Airlines would make last minute promotions to get rid of their unsold seats, well it doesn't work like that. Prices get ridiculously high if you book less than a month in advance.

2. Do a lot of research
There is no magic trick in finding a cheap plane tickets to Rio. It's not like you have a cheap airline that is always cheap. One day you will find a 900$ ticket with Iberia, one week later they will cost doble. So check every single airline and every option.

3. Be flexible
Try to be able to fly with a 2/3 days flexibility, also have a look at the price to fly to Sao Paulo (considering having a correspondence from there to Rio) Watch the hour though, sometime late or early arrivals will make correspondance complicated and it wouldn't be worthy if you would have to book a hotel waiting for your next flight!

4. Use a comparative engine
They will show you the cheapest airlines for your dates. Our favorites are www.opodo.com and www.lastminute.com

5. Look at the prices on the airlines sites
The comparative engine will show you the cheapest airlines, but very often the price will be even cheaper for the same flight if you book it directly on the airline's site, you might also have a little more flexibility with the times there!

6. Be patient
The cheapest options will always have 1 to 2 stops which could end up in a pretty long journey. Make sure to fully load your laptop and Ipod and bring good books as some of the cheap airlines don't have entertainment and you might have 4 to 5 hours stops in airports on the way!

TIP FOR FLIGHTS WITH STOPS
..........................................................................................................................................

=> Always ask when registering your luggage if they have an earlier or direct flight to your destination with some available seats. They will usually do the change for free and you might have a nice surprise and be quicker on the beach!

4. From another part of Brazil :

Flying is definitely the best way to travel within Brazil as there are many airlines flying pretty much anywhere for very cheap. You can for instance find flights for as low as $R 80 to go from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, definitely not worth a 7 hours bus ride that would cost you pretty much the same price!

=> The only rule is : Book in advance! Prices will increase considerably if you book last minute.

Our advice is to do a search with a comparative engine such as http://passagens-aereas.viajanet.com.br/ and then go directly to the airlines websites to book the ticket it will most of the time be cheaper there:

IMPORTANT:
..........................................................................................................................................
You often won't be able to book a ticket on a local airline without having a CPF number, or it will be more expensive. We strongly recommend to get a CPF number if you are going to travel and spend a little while in Brazil. => Read our article about how to get a CPF number in Brazil.
