The Bohemian neighborhood of Lapa

Lapa is part of the historical area of Rio de Janeiro and also considered its most Bohemian part. If you want a taste of "old school" Carioca party and Brazilian Samba culture, this is the place to be.

Street Party in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro

Lapa takes on a life of its own on weekends with massive crowds drinking and dancing on its streets to the sound of street bands or open bars.
It is particularly famous for its 64m high aqueduct called "Arcos de lapa"

Street Party in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro
The neighborhood was once called "The Montmarte of the Tropics"
and while the comparison seems a little out of proportion to us French, this is certainly a very arty place with its own special atmosphere.

WARNING:
..........................................................................................................................................

Popular areas of many cities in the world have their share of danger. Lapa is not considered to be particularly dangerous, but you might want to be careful when partying in the street. Try your best to not look too much like a tourist and leave your valuables, such as your ATM cards, passport, and jewelry, at home, especially if you have consumed a few cheap "street cervejas".
